The Mount Sunny 2021 Earth Day collection “Compost or Dye” focusses on minimising waste and finding innovative ways to implement sustainability in their garments. Experimenting with the use of natural dyes, Mount Sunny have developed two dyes to accompany 3 new tee shirt designs and socks.
The first dye is an unexpected but beautiful faded pink colour made by using the tannin filled skins and pits of discarded avocados. Mount Sunny have worked with a local Phoenix restaurant to collect the remnants of the avocados they use in their dishes to create their signature Avocado Dye.
The second dye is a warm brown colour made from the heart of an Indian acacia tree, called catechu. Commonly used to tan and dye clothing, it also has medical benefits observed in traditional Chinese medicine.
