What does Godspeed mean?
The term Godspeed is used to wish someone well on their journey or beginning. In 2016 Martin Kirby opened GODSPEED, a brick and mortar Japanese denim & streetwear store and would later rename the store to URAHARA.
Inspiration for the name also came from the movie God Speed You! Black Emperor. God Speed You! Black Emperor is a 1976 Japanese black-and-white 16 mm documentary film by director Mitsuo Yanagimachi that follows the exploits of young Japanese motorcyclists known as the "Black Emperors". Vintage motorcycle's and anti-establishment culture being a constant source of inspiration for the brand alongside other Japanese streetwear icons in Neighborhood, Rats & Tenderloin.
A Peregrine Falcon or 'Hayabusa' would be used for the store's logo. The Peregrine Falcon viewed as a deity in many cultures as well as being the fastest animal on earth. God + Speed. 'Hayabusa' is also the name given to the Suzuki motorcycle, one of the fastest production motorcycles ever made with a top speed of 320kph, matching that of the bird.
